ACS Communication Responsibilities

Elementary

Orientations, Meetings, Open Houses
(Log into monthly calendar)
• Teachers hold grade level meetings for parents within first two weeks of school to discuss curriculum, goals, standards, and activities for the year.
• Open House: Families visit classrooms in November to view student work and classroom facilities.
Orientations: Teachers discuss the goals, standards, and activities for the school year and prepare packets according to guidelines. Attendance is required. Students attend open houses and do not attend orientations and meetings.
Report Cards Reports of academic progress are issued at the end of each quarter. Prepare electronic gradebook (PowerGrade) according to report card guidelines. Review and discuss report card with child. Give parents report card.
FirstClass Assignments
(Grades 3 - 5)
FirstClass is an electronic communication suite that allows emailing and posting assignments via the ACS web page. Post assignments for week by Monday. Update when needed. Review assignments daily. Review assignments daily.
Teacher Web Pages
Teachers post monthly grade level web pages to communicate classroom activities.
Update web page monthly. Check web page once a month. Share web page with parents.
Grade Level Monthly Newsletters
Classroom teachers and specialists send home written notice of classroom activities and events.
Prepare newsletter according to guidelines. Ask child for newsletter at the beginning of every month. Give newsletters to parents.
Homework Sheets
• Teachers send written notice home with student indicating daily or weekly assignments.
Prepare and send home with students according to grade level routine. Review assignments and sign if required. Take home and share with parents.
Parent-Teacher Conferences
• Teachers and parents meet after the first quarter to discuss student progress.
• Teachers and parents of selected students meet following the third quarter.
Prepare according to conference guidelines. If a student is failing or working below his/her capabilities, contact the parents immediately for a conference. • Attend conference and discuss progress with child.
• Arrange for conference if concerned.

Notes/Letters Home
Individual or whole class written information sent home with student by teacher as needed.
Inform parent of concerns or requests in a timely manner. Establish routine with child to receive note. Follow note routine. Give parents notes.
Email Email (electronic mail) is the process of sending messages electronically using a computer. All staff email addresses are posted on the ACS web page. Email parents as needed. Teachers will also read (and respond to if necessary) parent email. Email teachers as needed. Parents will also read (and respond to if necessary) teacher email. NA
