HS Humanities (October & November 2007)
Brain Dissection
In October 2007, the AP Psychology students had the opportunity to dissect a brain with the help of a teacher assistant of Universidad de San Andres - UMSA. Our main objective was that AP psychology students explore the anatomy of the brain and be able to better understand the biological bases of behavior. The ACS AP Psychology teacher and the teacher assistant tested students´ knowledge during the dissection process, a test grade was entered after this experience. Students could opt not to participate in this activity. If so, they were assigned another work to do during this time, i.e. a test on biological bases of behavior.

Psychology Fair
In November 2007, ACS will held its Third Annual Psychology Fair, during which high school psychology students presented the projects that they worked on this semester. This was not a competition, but rather a celebration of psychology as a science in all its forms. Students worked individually, doing authentic scientific research and creating their own equipment/instruments, involving all fields of science. The assortment of over thirty psychology projects included the following topics: perception, motivation, body language, memory, diffusion of responsibility, exercise and stress, selective attention, human development/ intellectual development, and more.

Psychopharmacology
In October 2007, the AP Psychology students had the opportunity to do a psychopharmacology lab with the help of a teacher assistant of Universidad de San Andres - UMSA. Our main objective was that AP psychology students explore the effect of drugs on the CNS and be able to better understand the importance of drug therapy. The ACS AP Psychology teacher and the teacher assistant tested students’ knowledge during the lab while students completed a chart with data such as: pulse/heart rate, reflexes, and motor coordination. It is worth to note that the drug used was Diazepam and the Guinea pigs recovered completely after about two hours. A homework grade was entered after this experience. Students could opt not to participate in this activity. If so, they were assigned another work to do during this time, i.e. a quiz on treatment of psychological disorders with an emphasis on drug therapy.
