| A pastiche is a serious imitation of a work of art. In this particular case, grade 10 students were asked to create a both a pastiche of Sandra Cisneros The House on Mango Street after having read and studied the novel as a class and analysis notes that justify the choices they made while writing.
In addition to having to choose topics and themes that are found in the original work, students had to identify and imitate particular aspects of the writers style. Since The House on Mango Street is a series of prose-poetry vignettes that center upon family, growing up, and the experiences of being a minority in America, many of the student pastiches echo these concerns, as well as the lyrical and poetic narrative style of the author herself. I hope you enjoy reading the talented work of our ACS students. Sherrie McKibben |
