Hypothesis:
If brine shrimp are grown at zero gravity, then they will grow longer (size wise), compared to the brine shrimp living at normal gravity, which is 1 gravity.

10 facts
1.  Brine shrimp live best in an environment with high temperatures, a pH of 7.5-8.5, minimum amount of light, and oxygen (predators are less likely to survive in an environment with high temperatures).
2.  The scientific name of the brine shrimp are Artemia., which are part of the Crustacion class, which is part of the Arthropoda Phylum of the Animalia Kingdom.
3.  Brine shrimp can live in seawater or brackish water (salt and fresh mixed) but cannot live successfuly in competitive situations.
4.  Adult brine shrimp can grow up to 8-10 mm long (if they thrive, they can reach up to 20 mm), reaching adulthood in about 8 days.
5.  If the eggs are kept dry, they remain inactive, but as soon as it is moist enough with salt, the embryo growing through 15 molts before reaching adulthood.
6.  Brine shrimp live for 3 months average.
7.  The amount of time that the brine shrimp are put into the centrifuge for this experiment is equal to about 5% of their whole life, about 41 months in a human.
8.  Brine shrimp can survive between 6 to 40 degreees Celsius, but their optimum temperature is 25-30 degrees Celsius.
9.  Brine shrimp are often grown in hatcheries to feed fish all over the world.
10.  If conditions are perfect, a female brine shrimp can create 3000 live nauplii or cysts every 4 days. Cysts are baby brine shrimp in a frozen kind of state, which fall to th ebottom of a lake and then hatch when the temperature rises. Nauplii are baby brine shrimp.

Christine's

1.  How does 0 gravity effect the growth of the brine shrimp compared to the growth of the brine shrimp with normal gravity?

2.  Why do brine shrimp thrive so successfully in high temperatures?
Brine shrimp live more successfuly in higher temperatures because their predators are less likely to survive in an environment where temperatures are high.  Brine shrimp can live in lower temperatures, but their propulation is less likely to increase with their predators.  Brine shrimp do not live well where their predators survive well.  Also, brine shrimp eggs can tolerate up from absolute zero to almost 100 degrees C.   Brine shrimp can survive in temperatures of 25 degrees to 30 degrees C.  When they hatch, they can adapt to the temperature.

3.  How is this science expiriment accurate enough (managing same variables, environment conditions, etc.) or inaccurate?
The temperature inside the centrifuge is about 5 degrees Celcius warmer than the temperatures of the control brine shrimps live in.  This causes the hatching of the brrine shrimp in the centrifuge to develop more rapidly because inside the centrifuge, the temperature is about 30 degrees Celcius, wich is the best temperature/factors of living conditions for the brine shrimp to hatch and thrive.

Michael's

1. How much gravity does 30,000 RPMs simulate?
We were unable to find this information during our research, but we believe it is close to zero gravity.
2. Are you able to control the exact same environment inside and outside the centrifuge, including temperature and lighting?
No, we are not able to control the exact same environment inside the centrifuge as the outside. After the centrifuge has been started, the temperature rises inside to about 5 degrees celcius more. Lighting is the same but the way that the lighting affects the control and the experiment varies. Outside the centrifuge, the lighting might increase the temperature of the water while inside, the experiment is travelling too fast to be affected by the temperature the light might bring.
3. How does zero gravity affect the growth of brine shrimp?
Our hypothesis is that zero gravity will increase the size of brine shrimp faster, and that the brine shrimp will grow larger and longer. Why? Zero gravity simulation means that there is no gravity holding the brine shrimp down, which will allow them to grow larger because of no restriction from zero gravity.
