Ballistics in the 8th Grade
Gregory and Nathan
May 2004
Graduation 2008

This year both of us explored the concept of ballistics.  Ballistics is the movement of a projectile in air. In our experiment, the projectile is water pumped out of a hose.  What we explore in this experiment is not only the movement of the water, we also study the pressure of the water.  We explore these concepts in the following manner.  The materials we use are two ladders, for personal use, two protractors, for our respective measurements, a hose for the water, and a target used to find the pressure of the water.  What we do is shoot the water in thirty different angles (from 0º to 75º in intervals of five).  What happens next is that the water hits our target (a plastic basketball backboard) and makes it swing.  We measure this movement by the number of degrees it moved according to the protractor.  In the following pages you will further explore the concept of ballistics and will have further knowledge about our experiment.
