Illinois became a state in
December 3rd 1818 it was the 21st state to join the union. In 1820 the
capital was moved from Kaskasia to Vandalia. The black hawk war(1832)
ended the permanence of the Native Americans in Illinois and drove them
west of the Mississippi. The same happened in Bolivia when the
spaniards came. In the 1850's Abraham Lincoln's courier started. Him
and his colleagues worked to move the capital to Springfield and they
succeeded. He won national attention through slavery issues. Lincoln
became president in 1861 and fought hard for the union and fought hard
against slavery. In the 1860's the industry was well established. Right
after the civil war industry expanded tremendously. So came one of the
bigger companies which was a meatpacking company.
