Which state is surrounded by four of the five Great Lakes?  Michigan is!  Michigan became a state on January 26, 1837, making it the 26th state to enter the Union.  Before Michigan was a state, it was a very rich part of the Northern Territories.  French traders started settlements and began trading furs in the area with the United States which made a lot of maney.  One of these settlements was named Lansing, now the capital of the state.  It was because of this that when Michigan became a state, it was one of the wealthiest.  Michigan is made up of two peninsulas jutting into the Great Lakes.  When Michigan came into the union, it held little more than 100,000 inhabitants, now it is home to over 10,000,000.

Bolivia has a very similar history to hat of Michigan.  Both were exploited for mineral riches and later became either a country or part oof one.
