South Dakota is divided into 3 major regions: The Lowlands, The Great Plains, and the Black Hills. The lowlands are located at the east of the Missouri River. They were formed by glaciers. The lowlands consist of many hills, and glacial lakes. This area is called the Coteau des Prairies which means Prairie Hills. The name was put by the French traders. The plains are located at the west of the Missouri River, and they border Minnesota and the James River Basin. There is a lot of farm country found in this area. The plains mostly consist of flat hills, plains, and canyons. In the South of the Plains the Badlands are met. Last, but not least are the Black Hills. They are located on the Southwest. This range of mountains is about 6,000 square miles with mountains that are anywhere around 2,000 to 4,000 feet high. The Black Hills have a lot of gold, silver, copper, and lead. One of the largest mines in the US (Homestake Mine) is in the Black Hills. Mt. Rushmore and the Crazy Horse Memorial are also located in the Black Hills.

South Dakota’s geography is made of the Badlands and the Black Hills, mostly. The Black Hills are mountains with many trees and it is VERY beautiful. Bolivia has 3 different types of geography: altiplano, valle, and llanos. The altiplano is a flat area which is very cold and high. The valle has a few mountains, but it is mostly hills. The llanos are just a lot of rainforest.
