As people can often be confused
when asked to identify cat and dog
footprints due to similarities but in reality there are obvious
differences to help you distinguish them. For example would you be able
to tell which footprints belong to which animal from the image above?
In order to tell cat and dog footprints you only need to have basic
knowledge which I will provide on this web page. The most important
thing that you need to know is that cats imprints do not show claw
marks as the dogs do because the shape of the foot is affected by where
the animal lives. You might also be wondering why there are only four
toe marks on the tracks but the reason for this is that the fifth toe
is
higher up because the foot had been elongated over thousands of years
in order to allow more sure footed running, jumping and pouncing. It is
also possible to tell the speed of the animal by the pattern of the
prints which determined by how fast or slow the animal is moving and
become more spread out as they increase their speed. If you know this
information then in the future you should easily be able to tell them
apart and I hope that you have learned something useful from this
web page.
