| If you think about it all substances are poisonous but none of us are aware that each day we are slowly being killed. These toxins are the following lead, mercury and our atmosphere. mercury is a naturally occurring substance that has three forms. 1) It can be a solid, 2)liquid and 3) a gas. Mercury has several uses around the house but little do you know that it is a lethal toxin. It can be used in thermometers, in barometers and blood pressure units, in batteries, electrical switches, and mercury vapor lamps for the fluorescent bulbs. High exposure to mercury may cause permanent damage to the nervous system and brain, kidneys and developing fetus. If you are exposed to low levels of mercury it will damage you health wise. If you are to spill mercury in your house hold never do not use a vacuum cleaner to clean up a mercury spill because the vacuum will spread the mercury vapors into the air. Lead can be found in about everything but, the worst source is from Disney land. It comes from the red sunglasses that are sold in the park. The paint on the red sunglasses contains high levels of lead it is toxic if ingested by kids and can cause health effects. Last but not least the toxin that we are all exposed to is our atmosphere. Our atmosphere is composed of three layers. The troposphere, stratosphere and mesosphere. Most of our pollution gets stuck in about stratosphere. What makes this toxin so dangerous is that it contains smog, mercury, lead and on top of it, it wrecks our mesosphere making holes in it letting uv rays enter making a green house effect. |
