The plane was invented by the right brothers in Kitty Hawk, North
Carolina. The Wright brothers names were: Orville Wright and Wilbert
Wright. Orville Wright lived until he was 77 years old (1871-1948).
While Wilbert lived until he was 45 (1867-1912). They made their first
air craft (a glider) in the year 1899. The Wright brothers
made their tests flights in Kitty Hawk because of one main reason
which is that they wanted to keep their inventions as secret as
possible. After this they went back to Dayton and made a bigger version
and more sophisticated than the glider. This plain contained a rudder
and was known as the Canrad. They returned to Kitty Hawk in June of
1901 to test fly it (which they did in over 100 test flights). This
plane still wasn't up to scrap so the Wright brothers constructed an
air tunnel in which to test different wing styles. These tests
were made in November and December of 1901. These test were like the
foundation stone of early flying. They discovered that many early
predictions were wrong and were able to correct them. After testing 200
wing types they come up with the third glider. This glider was equipped
with a forward elevator wing, a rear fixed double fin (which was later
made adjustable), it also contained controls connected to the
"wing-warping" controls in the main biplane wing section. They then
returned to Kitty Hawk to test it and discovered it worked just as they
expected. With this plane the Wright brothers went commercial. Then in
1905 the brothers applied to make planes for the U.S. army and in 1906
the idea was accepted. Then disaster struck competition erupted in the
form of Glenn Curtiss which proved to be too big a challenge. Either
way the Wright brothers planted the foundation stone for all other
creators to build upon.
