Every part of the neuron has a function to make you respond to stimuli.  Like the dendrite.  The dendrite is a travel path for the neuro message that takes it to the cell body.  The cell body, like other cells, is the main contol center for the neuron that with other parts give the neuron nutrients and protiens to keep it alive.  The part that extends from the cell body is the axon.  The axon is responsible for taking away messeges from the cell body and take them to the synapse, but first the messege has to be slowed down by the mytec sheath.  The mytec sheath is responsible for protecting the axon with five different layers of sheath that prevents particles from getting close.  The part that extends from the axon in different directions is the synapse.  The synapse is responsible for sending the messege from one place to another through the synpse knobs.  The messege is dashed to another neuron by the synapic impulse.  That is located at the end of the axon.  This whole procedure makes up the Nervous system.
