  • The tongue consists of 4 sensations, sweet, bitter, sour, and salty. Those are detected by the taste buds receptors. The taste buds are located on the sides and tip of the tongue.
  • The auditory sense consists of the auditory canal, the eardrum, the cochlea and auditory nerve. First the sound wave goes in the auditory canal and hits the eardrum making vibrations. The sound waves enter the cochlea. The vibrations are detected and the nerve signals are sent to the brain by the auditory nerves.
  • Smell is detected by olfactory nerves. The olfactory nerves are stimulated by odorous substances. These olfactory nerves send signals representing smells to the olfactory bulb, where the signals are refined and then sent to the brain.
  • Vision is very important too. Vision begins with light rays bouncing off objects. The reflected light rays enter the eye and are converted into electrical signals. The signals leave the eye by the optic nerve and travel to the brain. Finally the brain decodes the signals into images.
  • Touch is detected by nerve endings in the skin which send signals to the brain by nerve fibers.
